PMT IKF June 9th
The competition was held in Arcadia, with a very modest size, but talented group of fighters.
Since Marrick was in the youth division he was our lead off hitter. He used his best tool in this fight, his left roundhouse, but his opponent was older, a head taller and much more experience fighter. His opponent was able use his size to control the fight distance; it was a good fight for Marrick and he will grow from it.
Gabriel came up nextand the fight was best describe as a slugfest. Gabriel was the more aggressive and had more head shots (the least value point for scoring in this competition) Both fighters left it on the floor, with Gabriel losing by a lack of experience in the clinch, he just started what seems like 2 days ago (okay more like 3 months).
Joshua’s fight came down to his experience. First time he fought someone relatively his size and the fight went to the 3rd round with Joshua’s more experience taking him to the finish line. He is going to get more fights where his size advantage will be negated and he will improve in the skills department.
McGwire (aka Z), the biggest guy in our gym, meet someone even big. Z’s opponent was 6’4-6’5 and a few dozen pounds heavier. Although Z, was the stronger more aggressive of the 2 the size difference was too much. This was a balls of steel type of fight today.
Steven was our anchor and lost last year in his fight. But this year he just show his experience. Using his ability to control distance and engagement to win out against his opponent.
Everyone did amazingly well and we are all very proud of their performance.
Here is a clip of the competition.
